Star Scout Candidates
Read official Star Rank Requirements in the Boy Scout Handbook.
Complete Star leadership requirement while a First Class Scout by (select one of the following):
Serving in one of the positions of responsibility listed in the Boy Scout Handbook
Serving as a Den Chief in a Cub Scout Pack for at least four months (see Den Chief requirements)
Completing a leadership project assigned by Scoutmaster Frank Otte
Complete six hours of Scoutmaster-approved work on service projects while a First Class Scout. Note that work on Eagle Scout projects is considered pre-approved by troop leadership.
Earn six merit badges, including any four from the required list for Eagle. (Required: First Aid; Citizenship in the Community; Citizenship in the Nation; Citizenship in the and World; Citizenship in Society; Communications; Personal Fitness; Environmental Science or Sustainability; Personal Management; Camping; Family Life; Cooking; Emergency Preparedness or Life Saving; and Swimming or Hiking or Cycling.)
Stay familiar with first aid and orienteering topics in the Boy Scout Handbook.
Keep all Merit Badge Blue Cards and rank advancement cards in the “baseball card” sheets in a three-ring binder.
Meet BSA Troop 174 participation requirement.
When you have completed all of the above requirements, arrange to meet with Scoutmaster Frank Otte and bring your Boy Scout Handbook and a pen to the meeting. Please ask him to sign-off on the rank requirements in the book and be prepared to present documentation of your service hours and leadership activities. You will need a signed and completed Den Chief Form if you served as a Den Chief for your Leadership Activity. Once your Boy Scout Handbook has been signed by Mr. Otte you may sign up for the next Scoutmaster Conference/Board of Review event.
