Wreath Auction Info
One of the highlights of the scout year is the holiday season troop auction, where points earned by scouts for selling Christmas Wreaths are used to bid for an array of sporting goods, electronics and camping equipment.
This is how it works…for each wreath a scout sells, he earns points…the more wreaths he sells, the more points he earns. These points are then used at the auction to bid on the “thousands of dollars worth of equipment” purchased for the occasion. Tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, outdoor stoves, CD players, TVs, cooking equipment and hundreds of other items are available for auction. No one goes home empty handed, and everyone has tons of fun. If you have never experienced a Troop 174 auction, you need to reserve the date…you have to see it to believe it!!
“My son was a first year scout, and wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen at his first Troop 174 Auction. We arrived on Sunday afternoon to find an unbelievable amount of equipment displayed on tables at the front of the room. Everything from $10 pocket knives to $350 tents…it looked like Dick’s Sporting Goods! After carefully inspecting the array of items available, the auction began and scouts used their points to bid for what they wanted. Every scout there got some really great items, and my son got what he hoped for…a great back pack. He even had points left over and ended up getting a small pocket knife and a camping pillow. My son was thrilled to get the great equipment, and I was really pleased to see him rewarded for the work he did selling wreaths. Wow…Troop 174 does it right !!”
Need we say more? The year-end scout auction is a time honored tradition at BSA Troop 174, and we look forward to seeing you there!
