Tenderfoot and Second Class Scouts
Congratulations for choosing to join BSA Troop 174! This page will give you general information about achieving Tenderfoot and Second Class Scout ranks. These two ranks are the starting point for any Scout on his way to Eagle.
Before earning Tenderfoot, your scout uniform will not include the Troop Neckerchief. Upon completing Tenderfoot rank, your neckerchief will be awarded to you at the Tenderfoot Court of Honor in November (or early December). All first year scouts will have full opportunity to reach this rank in that time.
It is important that you prioritize your attendance at the first three hikes in particular. The Saturday activities for first year scouts are all geared toward completing Tenderfoot requirements. To that end, first year Scouts split off from their patrols, while the older scouts go to different activities.
After the Christmas holiday, first year scouts will again meet separately as a group on Monday nights, but on the hikes will join their assigned patrols in the same activities. Monday night meetings will be geared toward Second Class (and some First Class) requirements. Many first year Scouts will achieve Second Class Scout rank during this half of the Scout year and in time to receive their rank advancement at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor in June.
There is a separate web page with information for first year Scouts and parents with a month-by-month guideline, [HERE]
